These pieces or art caught my eye when I saw them on Kotaku. They are paintings done by a lady called Kelli. Many of the pieces are based on retro video game characters such as Link, Mega man and Waluigi, and also famous comic book characters such as Batman and Wolverine. I wonder if Kelli entered the iam8bit contest because I think she could have done quite well. Kelli’s husband says on Kotaku, “We’re both incurable game nerds,”. This definitely shows in the art as you cant tell they have not just been copied out of magazine but done by someone that actually enjoys the game. I hope Kelli can keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more in the future. Check out more paintings at cheap paper art where you can also buy her paintings.

The Guardian have asked a interesting question. They are looking for the best songs about video games. Firstly I doubt that there are a lot of songs that are entirely about video games so I think its more of a question of when something about video games have been featured in a song. They have a list of ten of which I only know one.
Notorious BIG - Juicy
In this autobiographical rap the late Biggie Smalls disses all the
teachers who said he’d never amount to nuthin’, while celebrating the
trappings of his luxurious lifestyle. “Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis;
When I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this,” he proclaims.
Clearly he had modest ambitions compared to today’s rappers who
wouldn’t aspire to owning a games console unless it was made out of
solid gold and covered in polar bear fur.
If you can think of anymore let us know.
I think that there are a few classic retro video games that have had their music used in songs. I don’t know any but I’m sure there are.

Some students from America have shown they are true retro gaming fans and produced and great recreation of a level from Super Mario Bros. I enjoyed this more than the Mario Bros movie they attempted years ago. Link Via Infendo

Following on from the last post about Tetris I found this post from fresh creation which shows a bigger screen for playing tetris.
Now this is the ultimate way to play Tetris. Anyone reading my blog regularly will know of my previous addiction with Tetris (Tetris Nightmare). If i ever played this I think my addiction would start all over again but this time I would be forced to camp outside a building in the middle of no where. Who ever done this deserves a pat on the back. I mean how on earth did they manage to do this???? Link at Break

One of my favorite artists at the moment D*Face has blessed his work upon London in celebration of the Queens 80th Birthday (I didn’t realize she was that old). This is what D*Face had to say;
“Many people might well think that our good Queen Liz would have been
tucked up in bed dreaming of what presents she was going to get on the
eve of her 80th. The truth and maybe hard to believe reality was in
fact she was keeping eye out for the law. Turns out the gown and crown
are a pretty good distraction and the night ended up being nicely
productive.”
I cant believe I never see his work seeing as though I live in one of the most vibrant parts of London. Oh well maybe next time. Link via Wooster Collective.

Yes thats right all you nintendo and Mario fans. You can be a part of the Super Mario DVD extras because nintendo don’t want anything to do with it.
Therefore the DVD producers are turning to its fans dress as their favorite characters from the Mario games. So here is your chance to be famous or, more likely, your chance to be embarrassed for the rest of your life. Check out the full story at Press the buttons.

This is great news and I can not wait because I enjoyed this game so much when I purchased it for my much loved Sega Saturn. Hopefully this will become official in the near future and more people will recognize the greatness of this game.

Marc Ecko has spent his well earned money making a hoax video of a Air Force plane being tagged by graffiti artists. The video looks so real that even the Air Force were not sure whether one of their planes was actually tagged. The words they tagged are Still free and you can watch the video at Stillfree.
This is what Marc Ecko had to say about the whole video;
“I wanted to do something culturally significant, wanted to create a
real pop-culture moment. It’s this completely irreverent, over-the-top thing that could really
never happen: this five-dollar can of paint putting a pimple on this
Goliath.”
