You may have played this game as a kid and enjoyed it a lot. Well if you didn’t I certainly did as it was one of my favourite retro toys / board game. It was the 4 player element that had me hooked. Beating your 3 rivals, who in my case were usually my sister, brother and cousins, was a rewarding experience when I was about 7 or 8. Remember this was years before we had anything like Mario Kart 64 or Golden Eye on the Nintendo 64. However when I look at this game now I just don’t understand how it is fun. All you do is bash a lever on the hippo which swallows marbles. I think I may have to pop over to eBay and buy a copy and see what the excitement was when I was kid. The only thing I can think of that made it fun was as I said before, beating your opponents…So why did I use to have fun playing it all alone?
Before you leave thinking this is a pointless post, I wanted to talk about Hungry Hungry Hippos so that you can view this funny video by Robot Chicken who have turned Classic Board Games (yes Hungry Hippos is a board game… Kind of) into movie trailers. Just proves how popular Hungry Hippos really was.

2Did you know there was an arcade version of HHH? I saw one at an arcade auction not too long ago (I collect arcade games too). Here is a page about it:
