It never occurred to me that calculators can look cool and double up as a neat toy. That is why I love this Hog Wild Robot Calculator which has that retro robot styling you just have to adore. [via Weirdzilla]

One of the best retro toy themed birthday cakes I have come across. Operation was a game for only the steady handed children but the same will not apply to the cake. See all the cakes made by The Cake Fairy here.

Jeremiah P has created these stickers by actually using a Windows Vista error message which strangely reads “Error. The Operation Completed Successfully.”. Could these error message box stickers be the new form of “Hello My Name Is…” stickers to be spread over the world’s streets? [via Wonderland]

I officially started Urban Retro Lifestyle one year ago today and I am extremely pleased that we have made it to our 1st Birthday. It has been a bumpy road but boy has it been fun. I have had the opportunity to meet and communicate with so many great people, websites and blogs. As a little thank you gift to everyone that reads Urban Retro Lifestyle and all the websites that have sent people our way we thought we would offer everyone a free Speakerdog Paper Toy designed exclusively for Urban Retro Lifestyle’s 1st birthday by Ben The Illustrator (An awesome artist and a great guy). You have the choice of 2 Speakerdogs, the Urban Speakerdog or the Retro Speakerdog, but we suggest you make both as they look better side by side. If you have never made a paper toy before then make sure these are your first.

Anyone that makes one of these toys and sends us a picture for us to put up on our flickr gallery will receive a £5 OFF coupon to spend in the Urban Retro store. Sends your snaps to info@urbanretrolifestyle.com (terms and conditions apply)

DOWNLOAD THE “URBAN SPEAKERDOG”

What are you waiting for… Get busy downloading, printing, cutting, gluing and happy snapping. Once again a big thanks to everyone that has supported Urban Retro Lifestyle… We love you all!!!!

Now if only we had performance like this at my school.. I might actually have made the effort to learn to play a musical instrument. This performance featuring retro video game music from NES hits such as Zelda, Double Dragon and Mario was the winner of a High School percussion competition and you will realise why as soon as you hear the Mario theme tune drop half way. Retro video game music being recreated is a big hit at the moment and this is certainly one of the best so far.

Is this is a cross between animation and street art at its best? I think so. But how cool would it be if she could actually do that (maybe a new character for the awesome Heroes) [via Wooster Collective]

I bet you have never seen Batman and Robin looking this cute. These 7″ rubber squeeze toys are from the late 70s and were designed to make these Superheroes into kiddie characters. It looks as though they never quite took off which is a shame as it would been great to have seen more superheroes in the style of these toys. More info over at the Bat Blog.

This Polish animation by Tomek Baginski is such a clever little animation that is has forced me to create a brand new category… the Urban Animation category. This new category will cover all kinds of modern day animation including Indie CGI animations, stop motion animation and any other cool animation videos. So enjoy the first entry titled “Fallen Art” as I guarantee it will leave you with a smile.
