Receiving a Golden Prize for “Most Groundbreaking Film” at the Fantasia Film Festival 2007 sounds like a great accolade to me and I am itching to see this independent animation after viewing the awesome trailer. We Are The Strange is created by M Dot Strange and initially caught my attention as is features the amazing artist David Choe.

I have not really got into the whole independent film scene by this may sway me more into the world on movies made on small budgets and away from the recent disappointing big budget Hollywood movies.

Here is a synopsis of the movie taken from Film baby where you can also purchase the DVD.

Blue is a young girl navigating the streets of a terrifying, sinister fantasy world all alone. When she meets Emmm, a fellow lost soul, she joins him on a quest for some ice cream. Upon arriving, they realize the ice cream shop has been taken over by dark forces, and the whole city is teeming with evil. Bizarre monsters surround Blue and Emmm on all sides until Rain, a sadistic hero, arrives to rescue them and exterminate the source of the evil.

We Are the Strange is its own imaginative and immersive universe. M dot Strange spent three years painstakingly creating this film, using a range of animation techniques–traditional, stop-motion, computer, and his own unique blend of 8-bit graphics and anime, dubbed “Str8nime.” The stunning visuals are complemented by a soundtrack that is both beautiful and harrowing. The end result is a freaky technocarnival ride that climaxes with a momentous battle between innocence and darkness.

Watch 1252 famicom aka NES title screens evolve over 11 years. It is quite intriguing how much effort was put into some titles and how some screens are just a blank screen with a title and a few options. But the honest truth is that no one really caes what a title screen looks like. Still the video is a awesome trip down the 8-bit memory lane.

I started playing video games during the 8-Bit era and so I was excited to watch this top 10 list by game trailers. However I had to wait till no.5 in the list to say “I played and loved that game”. That game is Mike Tyson Punch Out and a interesting fact about it is that it is still the best selling boxing game. I think No.1 on the list deserves to be there and now I look at it, I have to say the graphics are quite impressive for a 8-Bit game. So do you agree with the list? If not what games did they miss out that you feel should be in there. [via Gay Gamer]
