I love being sent links to new art work by artists (that’s a hint to drop me more emails) and I really enjoyed the new work by Ric Stultlz which features a very cool space man type character and various creatures. The white background may not be everyones taste but I think it really gives each piece a dreamy feel.

When staying at a hotel you expect most of the rooms to look the same but the Baby Grand Hotel have a different idea.. and that’s why they present to you the Smurf suite. The Smurfs is a classic cartoon featuring the cutest blue creatures aroundand the hotel room seems to have captured that cartoon feel magnificently.

If the Smurfs suite is just a bit too childish for you then you have a choice of graffiti rooms to stay in.
“The Baby Grand Hotel brings together all that makes Athens unique: history, culture, innovation, and diversity. 10 international artists from the fields of urban art, graffiti design and illustration transformed Baby Grand, into Europe’s most exciting and creative city hotel.”
quoted from the Baby Grand Hotel website.

I recently visited 4 art events and exhibitions in various places in London and have now uploaded the images to the Urban Retro Flickr for your viewing pleasure. The first 2 shows have just opened so make you catch them before its too late. The last 2 took place last month.

Coming across an artist for the first and being blown away is always exciting.. and that is exactly what the of Yosuke Ueno does. He is an artist based in Japan who has had exhibitions through out the world. You can similarities in his style to other surreal, low brow and modern artists but that is no bad thing. Now I will pray that Yosuke Ueno one day comes to London.

Make sure you check out the website and the blog. [via Startdrawing]

If you go travelling and come across a stunning sand castle or sand sculpture then count yourself lucky because all I ever get to see is a 2 foot crumbling sand castle here in the UK.

Mixing technology with art is not always pretty but it can be interesting. Check out the full list of Geek art which includes some very cool edible art.

This amazing Ice sculpture takes and 132 hours to finish but its display time quite a bit shorter. Watch the video and be prepared to scream “NOOOOOOO” [Via Core77]

Supertouch has done an excellent show coverage for one of the best shows of the year ‘Mark Ryden - The Tree Show‘. Mark Ryden is easily one of the leaders in the modern fine art scene and after seeing what he created for this show you will know why. The show is being held at the Michael Kohn Gallery and is on until April 28th.
